MEETING 2

• Tujuan Pembelajaran :

Setelah melalui serangkaian pembelajaran, peserta didik mampu menggunakan ungkapan yang menunjukkan doa, harapan dan keinginan.

• Materi :

Hope/wish Adalah ungkapan atau ucapan seseorang yang menunjukkan doa, harapan dan keinginan terhadap orang lain supaya lebih baik, dan terkabul cita-cita atau yang menjadi harapannya.

Contoh ekspresi/ungkapan hope/wish:

–      I hope …

–      I hope you will win the first prize

–      I hope you pass the examination

–      Wish you luck

–      Wish me luck

–      Good luck

–      Etc.

To express hopes and wishes, we use the verbs “hope” and “wish”. Both show expectation, but they are used differently.

1. Hope

We use ‘hope’ when what we expect is very possible.

Example:   I hope Farah enjoys living in Lombok.

2. Wish

We use ‘wish’ to show goodwill.

Here, the word “wish/wishing …” is followed by a noun phrase.

Example:   

Wish/wishing you a happy birthday. (= I hope you have a happy birthday.)

Furthermore, we use ‘wish’ when what we expect is impossible.

Example:

I wish I speak Japanese. (In fact, I can’t speak Japanese.)

Dialogue 1

Shidqi  : Congratulations, Zahra. I hope you will be the winner of the singing

Zahra   : Thanks, Shidqi. Wish me luck. Amin.
